Shhhh, I'm breaking the rules please don't tell on me

OK, so I know I am breaking the unwritten rule of not blogging more than once in a day but I need some ideas, and since I have been sick and sleeping most of the afternoon I can't sleep now.

OK if you are reading this standing up, you might want to sit down because I am about to shock you! I have been teaching for going on 13 years and have NEVER been successful at having a classroom theme! I always try to find one I really like and then I can never find everything I need for it so I give up and I just say "My theme this year is 'cute' deal with it" LOL

Well now than I am learning how to be more crafty both on and off the computer I am thinking I may be a little more successful. Now for the problem, I have NO idea what theme I want to do. I was going to go with "Bright and Colorful" but, let's face it, that's just a fancier way of saying "my theme this year is 'cute' deal with it"

I have been blog stalking and have found some ideas but none of them jumped out at me. I LOVE the colors pink, purple, green, and brown so does anyone out there have any ideas (and/or pinterest resources) that you could share with me that would allow me to come up with a super cute theme using those colors?? Any and all ideas are welcome and appreciated!

  1. Pick a scientist... and choose your own colors.
Forensic scientist- make everything a mystery, detective theme
    Marine Biologist- ocean everything
Wildlife Biologist- the forest, camping, etc
Zoologist- all animals, safari hats for kids

  2. This is only going to be my 4th year teaching but so far you and I have always had the same theme of it's cute- deal with it lol. I've tried in the past but I have never quite pulled it off, mostly because I don't really love any ONE thing enough to theme my whole room with it. Like if I find a cute frog thing, I won't not purchase it just because it doesn't fit my "theme". But now that I'm so into the blog world I can't help but be filled with theme envy and I too am determined to pull one off this year! And actually I think coordinating your room with a similar color theme is one of the best ways to pull one together. If you're shopping for ideas I would HIGHLY suggest you visit Melanie at School Girl Style. She is the one who really inspired me to go for a theme this year and she has so many beautiful ones that she has already put together to help inspire others!!

  4. You could always just use those colors and choose a theme that coordinates - Monsters, Tropical, Circus, Carnival, Garden etc. Or, find a book that has illustrations that you love and go with that. I think sometimes we get so caught up in being matchy matchy that we make it harder than it has to be. Also, I think if we get too caught up, we create such a bright, colorful room with so many interesting features that pop off the wall at you, that we actually create distractions for our students. Some of my little ones especially get overwhelmed by too much going on at once. If "cute" is what you like then go with it :)

    1. I know Jennifer, its crazy right LOL Like I said every year I say I am going to do a theme but then everything is so doggone cute that I can't just stick to 1 theme! LOL Maybe I'll just go with what I have been doing, it works for me and I am always being told how cute my classroom is so I must be doing something right.

  6. Good luck on finding a classroom theme. I usually go with what I like. I have done an Ocean theme, Insects, Pond Life, Monkeys, and this year I am going with a Jungle Theme. I also use clipart from Scrappin Doodles and make what I want so it is what I like but is also super cute and engaging for the children. Let us know what you decide on. I think cute is a good theme! Thanks for following us, we are now your newest follwers too!

  8. Hi CIndy,
I am new to your blog and like your color preferences. You could check out school girl style or just use the colors and only those colors for a color schemed room.
